In an era of increasing bacterial resistance to antibiotics, optimizing doses and administration schedules is increasingly important, especially in critically-ill patients where important variations in drug disposition and elimination are common.  We will review and comment upon new developments in the monitoring of beta-lactams, fluoroquinolones and vancomycin susceptible that improve our clinical use of these agents.
