Dr Edmund Lamb, PhD FRCPath is a Consultant Clinical Scientist and Clinical Director of Pathology at East Kent Hospitals University NHS Trust, Canterbury, Kent, UK. He has a special interest in kidney disease and undertook his PhD in the Renal Research Laboratory at St Bartholomew’s Hospital, London. He has 35 years experience as a clinical biochemist and his research interests relate to the use of biochemical markers to diagnose and monitor kidney disease, including the assessment of kidney function using estimated GFR and cystatin C and the evaluation of renal bone disease: he is coauthor of more than 80 peer-reviewed papers in this area. He has been involved in national and international committees and guidelines (e.g. NICE and KDIGO CKD Guideline Development Groups) including the Department of Health initiative to roll-out eGFR across England. He is a former Editor-in-Chief of Annals of Clinical Biochemistry.
